Disciplinary Proceedings

His past experience in legal malpractice cases gives him a broad base of knowledge and puts him in a unique position to represent lawyers accused of professional or ethical misconduct before the Board of Professional Conduct.  He represents lawyers in disciplinary proceedings involving alleged violations of the Ohio Rules of Professional Conduct, the Code of Professional Responsibility, rules governing the Unauthorized Practice of Law, and related state laws.  He also represents judges accused of violating the Code of Judicial Conduct and related laws.  Many times his representation begins after a grievance is filed and is being investigated by Disciplinary Counsel or a Certified Grievance Committee.

A former Commissioner and Chair of the Ohio Supreme Court Board of Commissioners on Grievances and Discipline, the predecessor to the current Ohio Board of Professional Conduct, Richard C. Alkire fully understands the process and procedure involved in grievances and complaints.  He effectively represents clients at all stages of the process, including appearing before Disciplinary Counsel or a Certified Grievance Committee, advocating before a three-member panel during a hearing on the merits, and in oral argument before the Supreme Court of Ohio.

In addition, he represents prospective lawyers and out-of-state lawyers seeking to become members of the Ohio Bar by waiving in or taking the bar examination.  He also represents individuals in connection with character and fitness inquiries by Bar Associations and before the Board of Commissioners on Character and Fitness of the Ohio Supreme Court.
